Proficiency or the testing of the laboratories expertise and competency on a test basis is an entrenched practise. CAL participates in nine International Proficiency Schemes that are either ISO/IEC 17043 accredited or at least recognised as industry leaders. Current proficiency schemes have been chosen to ensure for example competency on finished feeds, raw materials, soya and oilcake products, mycotoxins and Avian serology.
CAL Laboratories recognised the need for a laboratory dedicated to the animal feed industry to be ISO/IEC 17025 accredited. Since 2008 CAL has invested substantially in world leading equipment and methodology to achieve this goal. Experienced professionals manage our laboratories according to the guidelines of our Quality Management System. Validations have taken into account the variety of matrices our customers encounter ensuring another level of legitimacy along with the extensive use of certified reference material. Our Feed and Serology laboratories are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by SANAS.
The Animal Feed Scheme consists of monthly rounds of a commercial feed, covering a wide variety of feeds and supplements with nutrients, drugs, antibiotics, minerals, and vitamins.
The Pet Food Scheme consists of quarterly rounds of a pet food ingredient, and a fifth round of dry pet food coinciding with the Animal Feed Scheme.
The Mycotoxin Contaminants Scheme consists of quarterly rounds of animal feed or pet food that has been contaminated with naturally incurred mycotoxins, including aflatoxins, fumonisins, deoxynivalenol, zearalenone, ochratoxin A and T-2 toxin.
